Introducing Loop & Merge: Create Smarter Surveys with Ease

Loop & Merge (L&M) is a powerful feature that helps you design more dynamic and personalized surveys without increasing complexity.

With Loop & Merge, you can create a series of questions that automatically adapt based on a respondent's previous answers or demographic profile. This ensures that your surveys are both highly relevant and efficiently structured, enhancing respondent engagement and improving data quality.

What is Loop & Merge?

Loop & Merge allows you to repeat a set of questions multiple times, dynamically replacing specific variables (like brand names, product types, or personal preferences) based on previous answers.

Imagine you ask respondents to select their favorite brands. For each selected brand, a follow-up set of questions can automatically personalize itself. For instance:

Q1: Select your favorite clothing brands:

  • Brand A

  • Brand B

  • Brand C

  • Brand D

If a respondent selects Brand A and Brand C, they’ll see follow-up questions for each brand separately:

  • Are you satisfied with the quality of Brand A's clothing?

  • Are you satisfied with the quality of Brand C's clothing?

  • How likely are you to recommend Brand A to a friend?

  • How likely are you to recommend Brand C to a friend?

How Does It Work?

You can find the feature when selecting "Group of Questions" from the Add New Question menu. Once added, the feature will appear on the left-hand side panel of the question group settings.

At the heart of Loop & Merge is a Loop Table, a simple structure where you define:

  • Loops (the number of repetitions)

  • Variables (the placeholders to be replaced in questions)

For example:

Loop Class Professor
1 Mathematics Dr. John
2 Physics Dr. David
3 Chemistry Dr. Jason

Questions will then automatically swap out the placeholders:

"You took the [ class placeholder ] class. Please provide feedback for [ professor placeholder ]."

The 1st Loop 1 will show up like this:

"You took the Mathematics class. Please provide feedback for Dr. John."

Dynamic Variables Sourced From:

  1. Manual Entries

  2. Previous Questions (like selected/unselected brands, products etc.)

  3. Demographic Questions (like region or pets).

  4. Combinations of previous answers + manual entries.

The platform will ensure all combinations are valid, with intelligent validations to prevent missing or mismatched data.

Feature Highlights:

  • Randomize Loops Order: Shuffle the sequence in which loops are displayed.

  • Limit Number of Loops: Cap the maximum number of loops shown to a respondent.

  • Support for Multiple Question Types within the loops: Including single/multiple selections, rankings, open-ended, and more.

  • Error Validations: Intelligent prompts will guide you if any configurations may affect data consistency.

Technical Considerations: Maxpath & Survey Flow

As Loop & Merge dynamically increases the number of questions shown per respondent, our system will automatically adjust the maxpath to account for these repetitions. This ensures smooth flow logic and accurate reporting.

For example, if a loop is based on a multiple-choice question with 3 selected answers and the L&M group contains 4 questions, the maxpath will increase by 12 steps (3 loops x 4 questions).

Seamless Data Exports & Integrations

Survey results, exports, and integrations will work exactly as you’re accustomed to (following the same structure as our A/B sequential method). You can easily track looped responses for deeper insights.

Why You'll Love Loop & Merge

Loop & Merge reduces the need for repetitive manual setup, making your surveys faster to build and more personalized for respondents. Whether you're conducting brand evaluations, course feedback, or product comparisons, L&M ensures every question feels tailored to each participant's choices.
